Jakarta – Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has asked airlines or operators not to raise airfares, especially ahead of the 2024 Eid homecoming.
"One thing, I always ask you about the tariff. I have reminded operators not to exceed the Upper Limit Tariff, and if they violate it, of course there will be sanctions," said the Minister Sumadi at Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, on Friday.
Based on the reports he received, the increase in airplane ticket prices often happens in the business class, which for determining the price of business class airplane tickets is the authority of the airlines.
"If the ticket price is expensive, I usually get it from business class passengers, because indeed for the business class it is regulated directly by the airline, not us (Ministry of Transportation). But if it's the economy class, then we regulate it," the minister explained.
So far, he ensures that airplane ticket rates, especially during the 2024 Eid transportation period, will not increase for the economy class.
"There is no increase, everything is still below the Upper Limit Tariff, according to the rules. Even if there are stubborn, sanctions will be given in accordance with existing regulations,"
Earlier, the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) released a number of airlines that were noted to often increase airplane ticket prices during the homecoming season.
Therefore, KPPU requested that airlines not raise airplane ticket rates, and not exceed the Upper Limit Tariff set by the government.
