Jokowi Inaugurates Reconstruction of Building Post-Disaster in Palu

Sulawesi – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the rehabilitation and reconstruction of buildings affected by the earthquake and tsunami in the city of Palu in 2018.
This is based on Presidential Instruction Number 8 of 2022 concerning the Completion of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Post-Disaster of Earthquakes, Tsunamis, and Liquefaction in Central Sulawesi Province. The government has made various efforts to restore the affected conditions.
"With the hard work of various parties, various public facilities such as roads, bridges, public services such as education, health services, social and economic activities, we can see have been restored," said the President in his speech at the Anutapura Medical Center (AMC) Building, RSUD Anutapura Palu, Palu City, Central Sulawesi, on Tuesday.
The Head of State mentioned that one of the reconstruction efforts that had been carried out was the construction of the AMC Building, Anutapura regional hospital.
This building was built with a budget of IDR244 billion and has become the first building in Indonesia to apply a base isolation system with lead rubber bearings to reduce the impact of earthquakes.
"I was given an illustration, under this building, there is something like a shock absorber because it can flex in the event of an earthquake, but we do not hope for earthquakes," President Jokowi remarked.
In addition, President Jokowi also inaugurated the State Islamic University (UIN) Datokarama, which also underwent comprehensive reconstruction with a total budget of IDR139.1 billion.
The construction of several learning support facilities is part of the effort to reconstruct this education center.
"This reconstruction includes the construction of various learning facilities, lecture halls, student centers, auditoriums, sports facilities, and other supporting facilities," the President stated.
Not only public infrastructure, but the construction of permanent housing and post-disaster settlement infrastructure also became the focus of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction.
The President further said that the government has been building permanent housing and post-disaster settlement infrastructure since 2019.
"With a total cost of IDR1.005 trillion, which includes the construction of 3,724 permanent housing units,"
With this inauguration, a new hope opens wide for Central Sulawesi to rise and continue development towards a better future.
The President also urged that post-disaster infrastructure that has built should be maintained and utilized to the best of its ability.
"So that the community's activities can fully return to normal, social activities, economic activities can move and recover," President Jokowi concluded.
