Jakarta – The Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy asked that mosques can use loudspeakers proportionally during 2024 Ramadan.
"Please use loudspeakers but in a good way such as to invite people come to mosque, to report important thing. If it's intended to create more noise, I don't think that's necessary," Minister Effendy said in a statement, Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Minister remarked that loudspeakers can still use to read the Quran but do not make it too loud. He emphasized that all religious communities should be able to maintain mutual tolerance in this Ramadan.
"We have experienced a long process between religious communities until now, because we're a religious country, a religious nation - that's called tolerance. It must really be maintained," the Minister explained.
According to the Minister, if places of worship use loudspeakers close together and shuot at each other, it will actually reduce solemnity in worship.
Earlier, Religion Ministry spokesperson Anna Hasbie explained that the circular regarding guidelines on the use of loudspeakers would not limit people's worship activities during Ramadan.
"This circular does not prohibit the use of loudspeakers. Please continue reading the Quran with the loudspeakers. However, for mutual interest, please only use internal speakers," Hasbie said.
The Religious Affairs Ministry on February 18, 2022, issued Circular Letter Number: SE. 05 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for the Use of Loudspeakers in Mosques and Prayer Rooms, she noted.
The circular aims to realize peace, order, and shared comfort in religious broadcasting among people with diverse religions, beliefs, and backgrounds.
The circular regulates the use of indoor and outdoor loudspeakers, including the use of loudspeakers during Ramadan, tarawih prayers, Ramadan lectures/studies, and Quran reading, requiring speakers to be pointed inside mosques.
