ASEAN May Become Global Economic Power, Jokowi Says

Melbourne – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the importance of cooperation between ASEAN and Australia in commemorating 50 years of partnership during his speech at the plenary session of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit.
President Jokowi remarked that ASEAN and Australia share a joint responsibility to maintain stability, peace, and prosperity in the region.
"As the oldest dialogue partner, comprehensive strategic partner, and gateway partner to the Pacific region, ASEAN and Australia both share the region and our common goals and responsibilities," the Head of State remarked at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Center, Melbourne, Australia on Wednesday.
President Jokowi stated that ASEAN may become a global economic power and rank fourth in the world by 2040.
With a population of over 650 million people, most of whom are young workforce with high technological literacy.
The Head of State emphasized the importance of Australia's support in maximizing this potential.
Therefore, President Jokowi encourages strengthening economic cooperation by enhancing economic integration, including through the Southeast Asia-Australia Economic Strategy 2040 to promote Australian investment in Southeast Asia.
