Jakarta – The Class I Immigration Office in North Jakarta has arrested eight Foreign Nationals in an apartment after receiving reports from local residents.
The eight Foreign Nationals have also violated their residency permits by overstaying in two different apartment locations.
"We received reports from the community regarding the presence and activities of Foreign Nationals disturbing the comfort of apartment residents; immigration swiftly took action by conducting immigration supervision," said Qriz Pratama, Head of the Class I Immigration Office in North Jakarta, in a statement on Wednesday.
Pratama explained that the eight individuals, with initials IGM, CON, OAN, COA, URC, OIP, EZC, and BM, are Nigerian citizens and were secured from the Pademangan Area Apartment in North Jakarta on February 22, 2024, and the Kelapa Gading Area Apartment in North Jakarta on February 24, 2024.
Pratama added that the violations of the eight Nigerian Foreign Nationals varied, such as overstaying for 8 months to 6 years.
Not only that, Pratama stated that five of them could not show travel documents (Passports).
"We have checked through the immigration database and recorded that the 8 Foreign Nationals have exceeded their permitted stay in Indonesia; 4 of them have stayed illegally because their passports have expired," Pratama informed.
Furthermore, four Foreign Nationals who were proven to have overstayed violated Article 78 Paragraph (3) of Law No. 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration, while four others are suspected of violating Article 119 of the Immigration Law for being in Indonesia without valid and still valid Travel Documents (Passport) and Visa.
"Then, the four Foreign Nationals who have been proven to have overstayed will be subject to Immigration Administrative Measures in the form of Deportation and Prohibition, while the four who violated the criminal provisions for illegal stay, if there is sufficient evidence, will be investigated for immigration crimes," Pratama remarked.
Meanwhile, Head of the Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement Section, Bong Bong Prakoso Napitupulu added that community participation in monitoring the presence of Foreign Nationals is highly expected to maintain security and order in the community.
"The community, especially in North Jakarta, can report to the local police if there are activities of Foreign Nationals violating immigration rules, causing disturbance, or disrupting public order. Complaint reports can also be submitted through WhatsApp Complaints," Napitupulu concluded.
