Powerful Wind Strikes Sumedang, Damaging 10 Houses

West Java – Strong wind happened in Sumedang Regency, West Java Province, on Wednesday, at 4 p.m. As a result, several houses were damaged, leading to injuries.
Abdul Muhari, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency's (BNPB) Data, Information, and Communication Center, stated that they were currently assessing the impact of the damage post-incident.
However, based on the latest report at 7:30 p.m., strong winds caused roofs of houses to be blown away.
"A total of 10 houses were damaged during the strong winds. Additionally, simultaneous with heavy rain, several trees fell. Vehicles and houses were hit by the fallen trees," said Abdul in his statement on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
In addition to the damage, this extreme weather phenomenon caused two injuries. These two victims are from Situbuntu Village, Mangunraga Village, Cimanggung District, and sustained injuries.
"Preliminary data records 19 households or 48 individuals affected by the incident," he said.
He mentioned that strong winds occurred in two districts, namely Cimanggung and Jatinangor. Apart from Sumedang, a similar incident was also experienced by residents in three districts in Bandung Regency, namely Rancaekek, Cicalengka, and Cileunyi.
As of now, there have been no reports from the local Disaster Management Agency regarding the impact of the strong winds.
According to him, following the strong wind disaster, the local Disaster Management Agencies in the two areas are undertaking emergency response efforts and ensuring the safety of residents.
Disaster Management Agency personnel have also coordinated with the affected district and village authorities.
"Faced with extreme weather, such as strong winds and heavy rain, residents are urged to take preventive and mitigation measures. Residents can check the structure of building roofs to ensure their stability," he concluded.Â
