Jakarta – The Indonesian Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan conveyed that the government will continue to intensify efforts to open export markets in Latin America and other non-traditional markets.

Currently, the government is indeed striving to expand the reach of export markets, from traditional ones like the United States, China, Japan, and Europe, to non-traditional ones such as Latin America, East Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

"Therefore, new breakthroughs, skilled manpower, and sufficient budget are needed to boost markets in Latin America or other non-traditional markets," Minister Hasan said at the opening of the 2024 Ministry of Trade Work Meeting, which was broadcast live on the Ministry of Trade's YouTube channel on Tuesday.

However, Minister Hasan admitted that Indonesian export value is still experiencing stagnation in some markets, such as Africa and Latin America.

Therefore, the Minister ensures that the Ministry of Trade has also committed to focus more on developing slow-growing markets.

"So, Mr. Djatmiko (Director General of International Trade Negotiations) and colleagues, we need sincerity to focus on underdeveloped regions,"

Regarding products, Minister Hasan remarked that several commodities could be developed for non-traditional markets. For example, food and beverages, meat, vegetables, clothing, shoes, and so on.

"Our products are good, before we were far behind Vietnam and Thailand, now we are starting to build from food. A simple example like vegetables, meat, another small example fish, crackers, chili sauce, they are all starting to compete with Thailand," he explained.
