Jakarta – Presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan stated to focus on cultural development in Indonesia. If elected, he will assign a specific task to the Ministry of Culture to realize this goal.
"Culture should not only be preserved as a legacy of the past but also cultivated," he said during the fifth debate at JCC Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday.
According to Anies, with an increased role of the government in promoting culture, the ideas and creativity of cultural figures will flourish.
"Therefore, we plan to establish a Cultur Ministry that will serve as a channel for national resources to support cultural figures, enabling them to grow and build an extraordinary culture,"
Anies also emphasized that Indonesia's wealth lies in its culture, not in a single development sector, but rather, the purpose of all development activities is to cultivate culture.
"So, the goal of every development sector is to build culture. Therefore, what the government needs to do is create a healthy system, allowing cultural figures to express themselves," he concluded.
As information, Indonesia will hold the 2024 general elections on February 14. The political campaigning period started on November 28, 2023, and will conclude on February 10.
