Additionally, 19 KRL Retrofit sets were acquired from INKA, with an investment exceeding IDR 2.23 trillion.

The third collaboration involved the import of 3 new KRL sets from CRRC Sifang, China, with a total investment of approximately IDR783 billion.

The financing for these acquisitions came from loans by KAI Commuter, Shareholder Loans from KAI, and government assistance through State Capital Participation (PMN).

He further clarified that these acquisitions aim to increase passenger capacity and replace aging KRL units, which will undergo retrofitting by INKA.

The phased replacement of aging KRL units is essential to meet the operational needs of the Commuter Line Jabodetabek service, targeting 1.2 million users per day by 2025.

On November 9, 2023, KAI Commuter signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CRRC Qingdao Sifang for collaborative development in railway facilities in Indonesia.

The collaboration includes the procurement of Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) and Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) railcars, as well as sharing technology, maintenance, capacity enhancement, spare parts procurement, and workforce development.

This MoU represents an update to previous collaborations, reflecting KAI Commuter's commitment to keeping pace with evolving railway technologies and enhancing the overall railway infrastructure.
