England – A woman from Indonesia, Maya Bracken was found killed with stab wounds inside her Lexus car in Pangbourne, Berkshire, England on Friday.
Bracken's neighbor described the Indonesian woman as a kind-hearted person who deeply loved her three children.
"She would do anything for them, and they seemed to have a great relationship," said one of her neighbors.
"It's so unexpected because they're a lovely family. She was our friend," the neighbor added.
Others said the tragedy has shocked the local community: "It's horrific, I can't believe what happened. We rushed out to help, but the police were already here, and then the ambulance arrived. We were told to go home, and everything was closed off," said another neighbor.
Police and paramedics first received reports of the attack on Thursday, January 4, 2024, on A340 Tidmarsh Road at the junction with Flower’s Hill.
They found Bracken severely injured inside the car and treated her at the scene, but she was declared dead shortly afterward.
Not long after that, an 18-year-old man was killed by a train on the nearby railway tracks, deemed by the police as a related incident. Thames Valley Police said they believed the deaths were connected and Inspector Detective Kevin Brown, head of the major crime unit, stated,
"We have created a murder investigation following the death of a woman near Flower's Hill, Pangbourne, and the discovery of a man's death at Pangbourne train station. First, I want to extend condolences on behalf of the force to the loved ones of both individuals at this very difficult time," Brown said.
"We are in the early stages of this complex investigation, but at this time, we are not seeking anyone else in connection with these deaths,"
Brown also stated: "We are still conducting inquiries but consider both deaths to be linked, and we remain open-minded about the circumstances of each. There is no wider threat to the community from this sad and tragic incident."
He informed that after significant initial disruptions to the road and rail networks, both locations have been restored, and normal transportation arrangements for both have resumed.
