Indonesia, Phillippines Celebrate 75th Year of Diplomatic Relation

Manila – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the Philippines is an opportunity to strengthen concrete cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
"In the political and security fields, we agree to strengthen cooperation on borders," the President said during a joint press conference with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace in Manila, Philippines, on Wednesday
"I have emphasized the importance of accelerating the revision of the border patrol agreement, border crossing agreement, resolution of the continental shelf boundaries, and strengthening defense cooperation, including defense equipment," he continued.
In the economic sector, both countries agreed to continue opening market access to enhance bilateral trade. Specifically, President Jokowi asked for Philippines' support regarding security measures for Indonesian coffee products.
"We agree to continue opening market access, and Indonesia seeks the support of the Philippines regarding the special safeguard measure for Indonesian coffee products," President Jokowi stated.
Regarding regional cooperation, Indonesia and the Philippines agreed to strengthen unity and centrality within ASEAN. The President emphasized that ASEAN must adhere to the principles of international law.
"We agree on the importance of strengthening unity and centrality within ASEAN, not just as a mere slogan. ASEAN must continue to adhere to the principles of international law and maintain a positive force for peace, stability, and prosperity," the President informed.
During the occasion, the Head of State also expressed appreciation for the Philippines' trust in Indonesian state-owned enterprises (BUMN) to contribute in the nation infrastructure development.
The President also urged the speedy implementation of the North-South Commuter Railway Project in the Philippines, a project undertaken by Indonesian state-owned enterprises.
"The groundbreaking for the North-South Commuter Railway Project is crucial to be accelerated," President Jokowi concluded.
