Jakarta – Presidential candidate number 2, Prabowo Subianto explained the reason for buying used defense equipment (Alutsista) when answering the question of presidential candidate number 3, Ganjar Pranowo.
Prabowo said that defense equipment was assessed based on its useful life (flying and sailing hours). In his explanation, the age of defense equipment is around 25-30 years, good for airplanes; warships, and so on.
"So, it's not a matter of using or not using, but the age of use, young people," said Prabowo at the third presidential candidate debate at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday.
He further gave the example of the Mirage 2000-5 aircraft from Qatar which the Ministry of Defense wanted to buy.
Prabowo reminded that the plane is only 15 years old, "The Mirage 2000-5 aircraft in Qatar that we plan to acquire is still 15 years old,"
This aircraft has technology that leads to more sophisticated aircraft. Initially, he wanted to buy the plane because there was a need, he added.Â
"This technology is leading to something more sophisticated. We show the sophisticated, the newest, but if we buy it new it will arrive, in only 3 years and the operation will only be 7 years," Prabowo explained.Â
Meanwhile, in the next 3 to 7 years we need deterrence (prevention), we need skills, he continued. As information, the third debate theme is Defense, Security, International Relations, Globalization, Geopolitics, and Foreign Policy.
