Over 27,000 Affected by Kerinci High Floods

Jambi – Kerinci Regency and Sungai Penuh City in Jambi are experiencing severe flooding. To date, the flood has entered its fourth day.

Due to the high rain intensity, the floods that inundated Kerinci Regency and Sungai Penuh City in Jambi haven’t receded. BPBD Jambi said that the floods that happened in the area were the worst floods in 2023. 

Floods in Kerinci Regency occurred in the sub-districts of Gunung Kerinci, Siulak, Siulak Mukai, Air Hangat, Air Hangat Barat, and Depati Tujuh. Meanwhile, flooding in Sungai Penuh City inundated the Hamparan Rawang, Koto Baru, and Tanah Kampung sub-districts.

The flood that hit a number of sub-districts in Kerinci was caused by the overflowing of the Batang Merao River.

Ipda Alamsyah Amir, Jambi Police Public Relations Officer said the local police recorded that the flood submerged 932 houses in the area. 

"Based on the data we received, the flood submerged 932 houses," he informed. 

Meanwhile, from the data of BPBD Kerinci Regency, a total of 41 villages with 9 sub-districts were affected by the floods with a total of 7,659 people affected. 

Then, there are 30 damaged roads in Kerinci Regency. Then for Sungai Penuh City, the local BPBD noted that there were 4 urban villages that were flooded with 19,472 people affected.

In total, 27,131 people were affected by the flood. The victims affected by the flood have now been evacuated to public facilities that are not affected by the flood and safe family homes. 

Amir further said Kerinci Police has provided assistance by mobilizing personnel to monitor the area. 

The police have also distributed food aid and health services by bringing in a police doctor to examine the health of the flood victims.
