Banda Aceh – The Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) of Banda Aceh City has urged its residents not to celebrate New Year's Eve.
In addition to not being in line with the customs and Islamic law that apply in Aceh, celebrating New Year's Eve by blowing trumpets, burning firecrackers and fireworks, as well as other party activities, is considered to only disrupt order and comfort amid society.
Amirussin, the Acting Mayor of Banda Aceh stated that the agreement was made after his party held a meeting to supervise the security of Christmas and New Year (Nataru) 2024 with elements of Forkopimda.
"On New Year's Eve, we urge the public not to participate in blowing trumpets, playing fireworks, and other festive things that have never been exemplified by Indatu. We must also respect our Christian citizens who worship in their respective churches," Amiruddin said on Monday.
Reflecting on previous years, Amiruddin feels optimistic that there will be no euphoric New Year's Eve celebrations in Banda Aceh.
"Actually, it has become a culture in our city and Aceh in general, in the last decade people no longer celebrate New Year's Eve," he remarked.
Even so, Amiruddin said the Banda Aceh Forkopimda would still conduct joint patrols on New Year's Eve to ensure a conducive situation.
"Let us together protect this city that we love from things that do not reflect the Earth of Serambi Mekkah," he concluded.
