United States – LeBron James recorded the highest points record for the 2023-2024 NBA season with 40 points as his team suppressed the Oklahoma City Thunder (OKC) heat machine with a final score of 129-120 at Paycom Center Oklahoma City, on Sunday.
LeBron, who is a 38-year-old player, recorded 13 shots from a total of 20 attempts made.
Five of his shots were three-point shots with 100 percent accuracy and nine of his free throw shots also had perfect accuracy.
LeBron also added seven rebounds, seven assists and two blocks for the LA Lakers. One of the blocks he made to pay for the mistake he made when passing the ball in the fourth quarter.
Luguentz Dort, who took advantage of LeBron's mistake, was immediately chased and blocked by the player with 20 years of experience in the NBA.
"Knowing I can still play as a winner, can impact the game in some way, and can close the game in the fourth quarter when the team needs it and they start going, it's a good feeling," LeBron said as quoted from the NBA's official site.
LeBron James is currently still the mainstay of the team as the top point scorer for the Lakers.
Anthony Davis recorded a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds, Rui Hachimura exploded with 21 points, and D'Angelo Russell added 15 points.
The Lakers recorded 52.2 percent shooting accuracy, with the most number of mature passes with 37 assists and only made nine mistakes or turnovers.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma City Thunder, who were on fire at the start of this season with the play of their young players, were forced to stop the run of three consecutive wins after being defeated by the Lakers.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 34 points for OKC, Jalen Williams 28 points, and NBA rookie Chet Holmgren added 19 points and 10 rebounds.
