Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said from second position, 44 percent of Indonesia's 4.6 million international migrants were women.

"It shows that Indonesia is quite open to human traffic coming in and out. The majority of international migrants come from middle and low income countries, said Widyasanti.

Meanwhile, 88 percent of the main destination countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) or better countries are Saudi Arabia.

"The rapid development of international migration will certainly have an impact on both destination and origin countries," Widysanti remarked.

Moreover, she gave an example, Indonesian people who emigrated from the United States were recorded as being able to increase their income by up to 500 percent compared to if they had not emigrated.

"So, this proves that people move to other countries (developed countries) because they want to get more income and higher welfare," Widyasanti concluded.
