Paris – President of the World Athletics Federation Association, Sebastian Coe, claimed that tickets for the 2024 Paris Olympics are still too expensive and he hopes that the athletes' families will be given priority by the organizers.Â
Coe, who was chief organizer of the 2012 London Olympics said he was worried that athletes' families would miss out on next year's Olympics because of expensive ticket prices.Â
"It's my responsibility to ensure our sport is held in the best possible environment and the organizing committee in France is doing everything they can to fill the stadiums even though ticket prices are, as we know, expensive," Coe explained.Â
"We have to accept for various reasons that Paris will be the most expensive Olympics for both international federations and fans,"Â
Furthermore, Coe remarked that his party wanted fans in the stadium to watch and celebrate sporting matches at an affordable price.
“It's important to consider family when athletes, in any sport, reach major championships. That's what we always try to do as best we can at World Athletics," he stated.Â
The most expensive ticket currently available for an athletics session at the Olympics is priced at 980 euros (IDR 16,607,590), although tickets for other sessions are available for 90 euros (IDR 1,525,186).
Next year's Olympics will also be a challenge for Paris following the Covid-19 virus which has started to emerge again recently.
“I want this Olympics to be a success, and as someone who has organized the Olympics, I am very aware that this is a very complex piece of project management that requires collective work from all stakeholders, including government agencies and intelligence agencies. It's complicated," Coe explained.Â
Furthermore, the gold medalist at the 1980 Moscow and 1984 Los Angeles Olympics hopes that the Chief Organizer of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Tony Estanguet and the team, can carry out their duties well and smoothly.
“We want the Olympics to take place safely and securely and not be held in a lockdown atmosphere. This is an Olympic challenge. I believes Paris will be able to face all these challenges," he concluded.
