Jokowi, PM Kishida Discuss Bilateral Cooperation to Palestinian Issue

Japan – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held a bilateral meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister (PM) Fumio Kishida in Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday.

Both state leaders discussed cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including the Palestinian issue. 

One is, that Indonesia and Japan will cooperate in the construction of the Jakarta MRT.

Moreover, the Indonesian President expressed his appreciation for Japan's commitment to building the east-west route and hoped that the next phase of construction could be completed according to plan.

"I hope that the construction of the north-south routes phase 2A and 2B can be completed on time," the President informed. 

Meanwhile, regarding the energy transition, Indonesia as a co-initiator of the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) emphasizes the importance of inclusive funding decarbonization cooperation and low-carbon technology transfer.

Apart from that, AZEC must also ensure the follow-up to the 12 MoUs signed some time ago during the AZEC ministerial-level meeting.

"Also, ask for support for the acceleration of three priority projects: geothermal power plant in Muara Laboh; waste to energy in Legok Nangka; and peatland management in Central Kalimantan," the President remarked. 

During the meeting, the two leaders of the country also discussed cooperation in the critical mineral and maritime sectors.

The President hopes that Japan can support the progress of downstream the Indonesian mineral industry and Indonesia's contribution as an important part of the global electric vehicle (EV) battery supply chain.

"I hope for greater support for the economic development of Indonesia's outer islands, including the development of the fishing industry as well as grants for patrol and fishing boats," the President expressed. 

After that, President Jokowi and PM Fumio Kishida discussed the Palestinian issue. 

"Indonesia's commitment to continue working for a permanent ceasefire, planning sustainable humanitarian assistance, and encouraging the start of a peace process to achieve a two-state solution as soon as possible," the President stated. 

Meanwhile, after holding a bilateral meeting, President Joko Widodo and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida received the proposal documents for the ASEAN-Japan Young Business Leaders' Summit and the ASEAN-Japan Gen-Z Business Leaders' Summit.

In addition, both leaders also witnessed the exchange of documents on the grant of a Japanese ship to the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) worth 9 billion yen between Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa.
