Over 100 Injured in Beijing Subway Train Crash

China – A subway train in Beijing crashed on the Thursday evening (December 14), leaving 102 people injured, state media reported on Friday, December 15, 2023.Â
The accident happened on Thursday at 6:57 p.m. local time, by a vehicle malfunction.Â
State television CCTV reported that a total of 515 people were rushed to hospital for examination, 102 of whom suffered broken bones.Â
A total of 423 people had been discharged from hospital by 6 a.m. on Friday, CCTV showed.Â
Another 67 people were still receiving treatment, while 25 others were under observation. There were no fatalities.Â
CNA reported that a preliminary investigation into the incident found that snowy weather had caused slippery rails and "signal degradation", resulting in the rear-end collision, the report said.Â
Social media users reported seeing passengers falling to the ground, with some complaining of back pain.Â
Images on social media showed passengers falling and lights going out. Some passengers used makeshift hammers to try to break the train windows to get out of the train.Â
