The periodic maintenance of the Kaaba is under the supervision of the Project Management Department of the Finance Ministry and in coordination with other relevant government agencies.

Then, this temporary maintenance is a continuation of the efforts and directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and followed up directly by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Temporary maintenance of the Kaaba is not just a routine task but is part of a comprehensive approach to ensure the proper care, preservation, and enhancement of the holiest site of Muslims.

The Ministry of Finance's Project Management Department oversees the progress of the work, engaging a dedicated group of professionals and experts to manage the expansion projects of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

The projects also include a major expansion of the Grand Mosque, and a project to increase the capacity of the Mataf, as well as a third expansion of the Prophet's Mosque, plaza, and relevant components.

Since its establishment in 1438 AH, the Project Management Department has been actively overseeing the expansion projects of the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

It has also overseen previous periodic maintenance work of elements of the Kaaba carried out in Shawwal 1440 AH and Dhul Hijjah 1442 AH.

Although many pilgrims have been asking when the Kaaba will be reopened and can be touched by worshipping Muslims, the authorities have not given a definite time and date.
