Jakarta – TikTok shop service is returning to the Indonesian market on Tuesday (December 12), with strategic cooperation between TikTok and GoTo Gojek Tokopedia.
The Indonesian trade minister, Zulkifli Hasan stated that the government gave a trial period of 3-4 months for the return of TikTok Shop in Indonesia.
"This is Tokopedia's e-commerce, in collaboration with TikTok. We give a trial period of 3-4 months because we know that technology isn't easy," said the Minister at the National Online Shopping Day (Harbolnas) event, in Jakarta, on Tuesday.
The minister further said that from the trial period of up to 4 months, the government will conduct an audit and analysis, to determine whether it will be refined.
"Later, we will audit what the value is like. Obviously, we will see how far it has progressed or been refined,"
The main purpose of re-opening the TikTok Shop is to help sellers or MSME players.
Earlier reported, for this partnering cooperation, TikTok has also committed over US$ 1.5 billion in the next few years to provide financial support for the future development of the e-commerce business.
The two companies would work together to promote Indonesia's digital economy and support local small- and medium-sized enterprises.
GoTo Group, or PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk, is Indonesia's largest Internet technology company. The GoTo ecosystem consists of on-demand services, e-commerce, financial technology, and logistics through the platforms of Gojek, Tokopedia, GoTo Financial, and GoTo Logistics.
TikTok halted its e-commerce feature, TikTok Shop, on October 4 due to new regulation implemented by the Indonesian Trade Ministry, which banned direct sales on social media platforms.
