Jokowi Hopes Cathedral Church to Become Social Activities Place

Kupang – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hopes that the Kupang Archdiocesan Cathedral Church's existence is not only used as a place of worship but also as a center for social activities in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
"I advise that this house of worship with a capacity of 1,500 people is not only used as a place of worship but also for other social community activities," the President said after inaugurating the revitalization of the Cathedral Church of the Archdiocese of Kupang, NTT, on Wednesday.
"Well, this place can be a space to build dialogue, strengthen brotherhood, strengthen harmony to strengthen national unity and integrity," the Head of State continued.
Kupang Cathedral Church was rehabilitated after being affected by the Seroja storm that hit Kupang City. The renovation was carried out using the allocation of the state revenue and expenditure budget (APBN).
"With the budget from the state budget, the Cathedral Church was built (and) rehabilitated. I was amazed because the interior is very good, very beautiful," the President remarked.
The President added that the renovation of the Cathedral Church is carried out thoroughly by building a new church that is wider than the previous building.
This rehabilitation is also equipped with the construction of a parish secretariat, bell tower, panel room, and generator.
"The new face of Christ the King Kupang Cathedral looks very magnificent, beautiful, and neat. A historic church that is part of the existence of the Catholic Church in Kupang City," the President expressed.
Also, present on the occasion were Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, Acting Governor of East Nusa Tenggara Ayodhia Kalake, and Mayor of Kupang Fahrenzy P. Funay.
