Padang – Head of the Padang Class A Search and Rescue Office, Abdul Malik, said that the joint SAR team found two climbers dead on Tuesday. The bodies of the two climbers are currently being evacuated.
Malik said that the two climbers who were found belonged to a group of 12 climbers who were previously declared missing.
"Two more victims were found dead. They will be evacuated today," Malik said on Tuesday.
Earlier, 11 climbers were found dead. Thus, the total number of climbers who died due to the eruption of Mount Marapi became 13 people.
Currently, the victims have been put into body bags to be evacuated immediately with a relay system. According to Malik, the evacuation process is currently constrained by the rain of volcanic ash due to the eruption this morning.
"All the victims are already in body bags and the process of evacuation. We are still constrained by the subsequent eruptions," he conveyed.
Abdul Malik added, that despite the constraints, the search and evacuation process for the climbers who were victims of Marapi's eruption will continue.
The personnel involved in this operation are 200 people from various elements, with a focus on searching and evacuating climbers in a radius of 2,000 meters above sea level.
"The search is focused on a radius of 2,000 meters above sea level from the crater or peak," he remarked.
