Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) compared the construction of toll roads in Indonesia with China. However, the current infrastructure index has increased because the Government has continued to carry out infrastructure development since 2015 until now.
"Toll roads have reached 2,143 kilometers, a leap for us when compared to toll roads in China which have reached 190 thousand kilometers," President Jokowi said at the State Palace on Monday.Â
The President stated that the construction of dams in Indonesia is also still far behind China and Korea.
"The number of dams in Indonesia is only around 300. In Korea, there are already 20,000 dams, while in China there are almost 90,000 dams. So, it is still far away," President Jokowi informed.Â
"The government must work hard again, 42 dams have been completed and there will be an additional 15 or 17 dams in 2024," the President added.Â
According to the IDM global competitiveness index, Jokowi said that Indonesia's development ranked 54th in 2014. Currently, Indonesia's infrastructure is ranked 51st.Â
"These signs are increasing. We are working hard on infrastructure to make it visible,"
In addition, Jokowi said the government had built infrastructure by completely remodeling the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Senayan area due to the 2018 Asian Games, the G-20 Summit, and preparations for various development improvements by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).
"The ASEAN Summit in Jakarta and also the construction of new tourist destinations, for example in Labuan Bajo, Mandalika, and other places. This is all the result of hard work," the President remarked.Â
However, President Jokowi reminded that in the planning, the preparation must be more comprehensive, for example, building roads should not only be about roads but a package with drainage work and sidewalk landscape.
"We must have a good way of thinking to form a plan for drainage roads, sidewalks, landscapes, everything must be prepared," the Head of State concluded.Â
