Bekasi – As a new player in the Indonesian automotive market, Chery officially started the first production of the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) Omoda E5 electric car – previously known as the Omoda 5 EV.
Related to this CKD production, Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) cooperates with Handal Indonesia Motor and is located in Pondok Ungu, West Java.
President of CSI, Chen Chunqing said that the production of Omoda E5 in Indonesia is a strategic step that shows Chery's commitment to supporting the acceleration of electrification in the country.
"The start of Chery Omoda E5 production in Indonesia is our commitment to support the green energy transition in Indonesia and we believe electric cars are the future of transportation, to reduce carbon emissions," he said at the Omoda E5 Roll Off Ceremony at the Chery CKD Factory, Bekasi.
Supporting this good step, the Government through the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto appreciated Chery's commitment to the production of the Omoda E5 in Indonesia and began to focus on exports to several countries, especially for right-hand drive cars.
"We appreciate Chery's commitment to the production of Omoda E5 in Indonesia and I hope Chery can make Indonesia a base for the production and export of electric cars," Minister Hartarto stated on the occasion of the event.
As information, after being launched last August at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2023), the Omoda E5 will soon be distributed to customers in the first quarter of 2024.
Initial bookings for this compact SUV electric car have reached nearly 400 units. The Omoda E5 is Chery's first electric vehicle for the global market and is expected to meet the needs of Indonesian consumers.
The Omoda E5 is equipped with a 120 kW electric motor and a battery capable of traveling up to 450 kilometers.
