Gaza – After an eight-day ceasefire and the release of some prisoners, Israel is now back to attack Palestinians in Gaza.
Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes in the past 24 hours in Gaza, while the Israeli army ordered more areas in and around the town of Khan Younis, the second largest town in the enclave, to be evacuated from the town.Â
The director general of the Government Media Office in Gaza said on Sunday that more than 700 Palestinians have been killed since Israel resumed bombing after a seven-day ceasefire ended on Friday.
More than 1.5 million people have been displaced, most of them from northern Gaza, since Israel launched a military offensive on October 7 following a deadly Hamas offensive.
Saturday night into Sunday, heavy bombardment was reported in Khan Younis, Rafah, and parts of the north targeted by Israeli air and ground strikes.
"Everywhere you go, there are children with third-degree burns, shrapnel wounds, brain injuries, and broken bones," said James Elder, global spokesperson for UNICEF.Â
"Mothers are crying for their children who seem to be hours away from death. Right now it looks like a death zone," Elder continued.Â
The main hospital in Khan Younis received at least three deaths and dozens of injuries on Sunday morning from an Israeli airstrikes hit a residential building in the eastern part of the city.Â
Then, the bodies of 31 people killed in an Israeli bombing in the central Gaza Strip were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the central Gaza town of Deir el-Balah, said Omar al-Darawi, an administrative officer at the hospital.
In northern Gaza, rescuers with makeshift equipment rushed on Sunday to dig through the rubble of buildings in Jabaliya refugee camp and other neighborhoods in Gaza City to search for survivors and bodies.
Hopes of a future ceasefire were dashed on Saturday when Israel announced the withdrawal of negotiators from the Qatari capital of Doha, saying the talks had reached a stalemate.
As information, Israel says it is now seeking to eliminate the Palestinian armed group Hamas, which launched a deadly attack in southern Israel on October 7, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking more than 240 captive, according to Israeli authorities.
In retaliation, Israel has killed more than 15,200 Palestinians in attacks in Gaza since October 7, according to the Health Ministry in Gaza.
