Mount Anak Krakatau Erupts Many Times with 2,000 Meter High Ash Plume

Banten – Mount Anak Krakatau has been active again since Tuesday, November 28. The volcano, located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, has erupted seven times. The eruptions were uploaded to Magma Indonesia, the official application of PVMBG, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau ahead of the Christmas and New Year 2024 holidays, occurred on Tuesday morning, at 00.00 a.m. with the height of the volcanic ash spout reaching 2,000 meters from the summit. 

The thick black ash column pointed to the northwest. A fire point as high as 50 meters was also seen from the eruption site. The eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 75 mm for 2 minutes 29 seconds.

The second eruption occurred at 06:29 a.m. with the height of the ash column observed at 1,000 meters above the peak. The ash column was observed to be gray to black towards the north. The eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 70 mm for 2 minutes 10 seconds.

The third eruption occurred at 9:04 a.m. with an ash column height observed at 800 meters, gray to black in color with moderate intensity, heading north. 

In the seismogram recording, the maximum amplitude was 60 mm and lasted for 2 minutes 25 seconds.

Furthermore, the fourth eruption, occurred at 9:15 a.m. with the height of the ash column observed at 1,500 meters from the top of the peak, the ash was observed to be gray to black in color with thick intensity observed and directed to the northeast. 

The eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 65 mm, for 1 minute 7 seconds. There was a boom sound.

The fifth eruption occurred at 10:51 a.m. with the height of the ash column observed at 1,500 meters with a maximum amplitude of 65 mm for 1 minute 5 seconds. No boom was heard and the volcanic ash was gray to black in color towards the north.

The sixth eruption occurred at 11:38 a.m. with an ash column height of 800 meters, maximum amplitude of 60 mm and lasted for 33 seconds. The ash was black in color and pointed to the north.

The seventh eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK), occurred at 1:21 p.m, with the height of the ash column observed reaching 1,000 meters. Then the maximum amplitude was 70 mm for 46 seconds. Thick black volcanic ash pointed to the northeast.

The status of Mount Anak Krakatau in the waters of the Sunda Strait is at Level III or Alert, with a recommendation that there should be no activity within a 5 km radius. The public is asked not to easily believe the information circulating and always check the truth through reliable sources.
