UN Reveals 40 Percent of Deaths are Women, Children in Gaza

Gaza – United Nations (UN) officials have called the Gaza Strip the most dangerous place in the world for children, as thousands have been killed in Palestine in Israel's offensive on the Gaza Strip.
"More than 5,300 Palestinian children were reported killed in just 46 days or more than 115 children per day, every day, for weeks," said Catherine Russell as Executive Director of the UN Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF).Â
"Based on these figures, 40 percent of the deaths in Gaza are children. This is unprecedented," she continued.Â
Russell said that Gaza's children are at extreme risk due to poor living conditions in addition to bombs, rockets and gunfire.
"The impact of violence perpetrated against children is profound, indiscriminate and disproportionate humanitarian pause isn’t enough. UNICEF calls for an urgent humanitarian ceasefire to immediately stop this carnage," Catherine informed.Â
"We afraid that further military escalation in southern Gaza will exponentially worsen the humanitarian situation there, cause more displacement, and squeeze the civilian population into smaller areas. Attacks in the south (must) be avoided." she added.Â
As information, Israel launched relentless air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on October 7, 2023.
Authorities in Gaza on Tuesday said that the death toll from Israel's continued offensive in the besieged enclave had risen past 14,100 people, including more than 5,800 children and 3,900 women.Â
Meanwhile, the death toll in Israel is around 1,200, according to official figures.
