Nigeria – A woman from Lagos Nigeria broke the Guinness World Records by making a handmade wig with a length of 351.28 m or 1,152 feet 5 inches.

Helen Williams spent 11 days and the equivalent of IDR 35 million to make pieces of hair into wigs. She needed 1,000 hair ties, 12 cans of hair spray, 35 tubes of hair glue, and 6,250 bobby pins.

After making the bottom layer with a wig cover made of mesh and black cloth attached to a bicycle helmet. Finding the materials to make the longest wig was not an easy task," Williams told Guinness.

Williams admits that her experience as a wig maker helped her break the record for the world's longest wig. Williams has worked as a professional wig maker for eight years and has produced 50 to 300 wigs per week.

"I've trained hundreds of students and made thousands of wigs," she said.

Despite her vast experience, making record-breaking wigs was not easy for Williams, "At some time, I got tired,"

Williams further admits that friends and family encouraged her to make the wigs.

"I didn't want to let them down, so I stayed focused. The result is the world's longest handmade wig," she remarked.

The biggest challenge Williams faced was finding a place to lay the wig in a straight line and measure it accurately, as none of the places she visited including several running tracks were long enough to accommodate it.

She finally decided to do it beside the Lagos Abeokuta Expressway, a long road that connects the cities of Lagos and Abeokuta. Helen now keeps the wig in her office, where she invites anyone to come and see it.

"Whenever they want to see it," she stated.

Growing up reading the Guinness World Records yearbook every year, Helen is thrilled that she has now become a Guinness world record holder.

In response to her new achievement in the Guinness World Records book, Williams expressed her excitement, and said that this is one of the best things that has ever happened to her.

"I still can't believe I broke this record. This feat follows in the footsteps of another Nigerian, Hilda Baci, who set the world record for non-stop cooking earlier this year." she expressed.
