"The government continues to anticipate various risks due to new geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East. Israel and Hamas add to the uncertainty that makes it difficult for the world to breathe," Minister Hartarto stated in a press conference on Monday.

Minister Hartarto remarked that the Government continues to anticipate the impact of these geopolitical tensions. For example, on several commodities including fuel oil.

However, the Government is still unable to ascertain the long-term impact on the economy of the escalating war between Israel and Hamas.

"When the world is uncertain, it will have an impact on fuel. However, because global economic growth is declining, the effect of this temporary increase is still being felt. We do not know how long it will last, we will anticipate it later," the Minister explained.

Previously, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) observed that the impact of the war between Israel and Hamas on the Indonesian economy is expected to be seen through foreign trade.

BPS noted that Indonesia's economy in the third quarter of 2023 grew 4.94 percent year on year (yoy).

"The impact of the war from Israel will probably only be seen in the fourth quarter of 2023, whether there is an impact or not, we will see later," said Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti in a press conference on Monday.

Widyasanti informed that the transmission to Indonesia will be seen through foreign trade between Indonesia and Israel, as well as Indonesia-Palestine.
