Kalimantan – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that cultural preservation and human resource development play a significant role in the development of the new National Capital (IKN Nusantara).
"(Infrastructure) is physical. The most important thing is human resource development and cultural preservation," the President said at the Nusantara Cultural Harmony Festival, East Kalimantan, on Friday.
"Cultural preservation plays an important role, do not let it be lost or inferior to foreign cultures," the Head of State continued.
The President appreciated the Nusantara Cultural Harmony Festival as a reminder to preserve the archipelago's diverse cultures.
"Indonesian culture is very diverse, very pluralistic. We have 714 tribes. This means that the strength, character, and culture that we have must be preserved, maintained, and nurtured," the President remarked.
According to the Head of State, IKN will be inhabited by people from various tribes and cultures, both from local communities and migrants.
"I hope that all parties can live in harmony, coexist, live side by side, and jointly maintain, preserve, and develop the nation's culture, including the local culture and traditions of the people of East Kalimantan," President Jokowi expressed.
He added: "Therefore, it is necessary to build mutual awareness to respect each other, appreciate diversity, and make Bhinneka Tunggal Ika as a strength to build harmony, togetherness, and unity."
