Tennis Star Ons Jabeur Donates Prize Money to Palestinian Aid

Mexico – The Tunisian Tennis player Ons Jabeur announced she will donate some of her WTA Finals prize money to help Palestinian victims of the ongoing conflict in Gaza

After beating Marketa Vondrousova 6-4 6-3 in a reversal of the Wimbledon final for her first victory at the tournament in Mexico, Tunisian Jabeur broke down in tears during her post-match interview.

“I am very happy with the win but I haven’t been happy lately, to be honest with you,” Ons Jabeur said.

"The situation in the world doesn't make me happy. It's very tough seeing children, babies, dying every day. It's hear heartbreaking. So I've decided to donate part of my prize money to help the Palestinians," She continued.

Jabeur also mentioned: "It's not a political message, it's just humanity. I want peace in this world and that's it," 

The 29-year-old satated that she focusing on tennis in the midst of conflict is worsening. 

"I try to avoid social media as much as possible, but it's very difficult. You see videos, photos, it's really horrible photos every day. It doesn't help me to sleep or recover well and the worst thing is that I feel hopeless," Jabeur remarked.

"Maybe donating some money can help a little bit for what they are going through. But I know money means nothing to them right now. So I pray for freedom for everyone and peace for everyone," she added. 

Meanwhile, Jabeur must beat world number two Iga Swiatek in the last match of the round-robin round on Friday to open the opportunity to qualify for the semifinals of this tournament.
