Yogyakarta – The Yogyakarta Special Region through the Regional Tourism Promotion Agency (BPPD) has started preparations for the "Jogja Cultural Wellness Festival 2023," which will take place throughout November 2023. The event aims to further introduce Yogyakarta as a health and wellness tourism destination in Indonesia.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno appreciated this initiative during The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno at Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, on Monday.Â
"This is one concept, namely #SehatDanBugarDiIndonesiaAja by our expectations. Hopefully, this activity can become a sustainable routine event," Minister Sandiaga Uno said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Chairperson of the Yogyakarta Special Region Tourism Promotion Board, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Bendara, stated that apart from the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Surakarta City and Bali are also included in Indonesia's health and fitness tourism destinations.Â
According to her, Yogyakarta needs to have its own characteristics so that it can be distinguished from other health tourism cities.Â
"Finally, we were moved to determine that wellness Jogja is based on Mataram culture. Because historically there was the Jatisari agreement and the Giyanti agreement that separated the two kingdoms. The Yogyakarta Palace has its old culture. Starting from the color of the cloth, dance, archery, and others," Gusti Kanjeng explained.Â
Inspired by this background, the DIY Government presents the Jogja Cultural Wellness Festival. The festival will take place during weekends throughout November 2023 and will be spread throughout Yogyakarta.Â
It is expected that actors or communities in the field of health and fitness tourism will participate.Â
"Keep following the development because there will be new programs every day. However, the quota is limited because wellness cannot be massive. So don't miss it," she continued.Â
