Jakarta – WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging apps in the world. It's used by billions of people to communicate with friends, family, and others.Â
However, just like any other digital application, WhatsApp has a possibility to be hacked by someone. If your WhatsApp account is hacked, others can access your personal information, such as messages, photos and videos.
They can also use your account to send spam messages to others. So, here's to know if your WhatsApp account has been hacked.Â
1. Unexpected Account ActivityÂ
If you notice unusual activity on your WhatsApp account, such as messages you didn't send, status updates you didn't post, or profile picture changes you didn't make, it could be a sign of hacking.
2. Logged in from Multiple Devices
WhatsApp typically allows you to use your account on one device at a time. If you receive notifications that your account is being accessed from multiple devices simultaneously, it's a red flag.
3. Lost Access
If you suddenly find that you can't access your own WhatsApp account, this could indicate that the hacker has changed your password or locked you out of the account.
4. Unfamiliar Contacts
If you notice unknown contacts added to your WhatsApp account or see conversations with people you've never interacted with, it's a clear sign of unauthorized access.
5. Changes in Account Settings
Hackers might change your account settings, such as privacy settings, phone number, or email associated with your account.
6. Logging Out of WhatsApp Suddenly
If you suddenly log out of WhatsApp, then there is a possibility that your account has been hacked. This can happen if the hijacker has managed to change your password or phone number.
Steps to take if you suspect your WhatsApp account has been hacked:
Log Out of All Devices: If you can still access your account, immediately log out from all active sessions. Open WhatsApp, go to Settings > WhatsApp Web/Desktop > Log out from all devices.
Change Your Password: Change your WhatsApp account password by going to Settings > Account > Change password. Use a strong and unique password that includes a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters.
Enable Two-Step Verification: This adds an extra layer of security to your account. Go to Settings > Account > Two-step verification > Enable. Set up a PIN that only you know, and provide an email address for account recovery.
Verify Your Account: If you've been locked out of your account, follow WhatsApp's account recovery process. This usually involves receiving a verification code via SMS or email to regain access.
Check for Suspicious Activity: Review your chat history and contact list for any unauthorized changes or conversations. Delete any unfamiliar contacts or conversations.
Notify Your Contacts: Inform your friends and contacts that your account may have been hacked. Advise them to be cautious if they receive any unusual messages from your account.
Report to WhatsApp: If you believe your account has been compromised, report it to WhatsApp. Contact their support and provide them with the necessary details.
