Extinguishing Mount Bromo After Fire Costs 200 Million per Hour

Malang – After a fire caused by flares hit the Bukit Telettubies Savannah in the Bromo area on September 6, Mount Bromo has unhealthy looks now. These fires are known to have spread to the areas of Keciri Hill, Tutur, and Mungal Hill, Tosari, Pasuruan.
The Head of Bromo, Tengger, and Semeru National Park (BB TNBTS) Hendro Wijarnako recently revealed that forest fires in the Mount Bromo area have affected roughly 500 hectares, based on reports up to September 11.
"Forest fires in the Mount Bromo area have affected roughly 500 hectares," Wijarnako said.
He also mentioned about the fine imposed on the perpetrators of the Mount Bromo fire, amounting to IDR 1,5 billion, is still insufficient compared to the operational cost of water bombong, which is IDR 200 million per hour.
"This extinguishing the forest fires has spent IDR 200 million per hour," he remarked.
It is known, the issue is not yet resolved. According to him, 90% of forest and land fires are caued by human actions.
Not only does this result in economic losses, but also ecological damage, Wijanarko said that numerous reports of fires on the side of highway due to drivers throwing cigarette butts.
