New Delhi – The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially closed the G20 India Summit on Sunday. Leaders of member countries managed to reach an agreement on several paragraphs relating to global geopolitical conditions and committed to global growth issues.Â
"The G20 New Delhi Summit provided a new path for human-centered and inclusive development. Earlier, on Saturday, September 9, 2023, consensus was reached on the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration," Prime Minister Modi said, as quoted from an official statement from the Ministry of Economic Affairs on Monday.Â
He also said: "The G20 members finally managed to reach an agreement on the paragraph relating to global geopolitical conditions, which was the last issue to be approved by the members."Â
The declaration consists of 12 sections and 83 paragraphs containing G20 members' commitments to the issues of global growth, achieving the SDGs, sustainable economy, multilateralism, technological transformation, and digital infrastructure.Â
Then international taxation, gender equality and women's empowerment, financial issues, counter-terrorism and money laundering, and efforts to create a more inclusive global order.
In the G20 New Delhi Summit, Indonesia supported the priorities of the Indian Presidency by continuing to prioritize inclusiveness through efforts to maintain the relevance of the G20 as the world's main economic forum in addressing global issues.Â
"On the other hand, Indonesia also ensures that the G20 Bali Summit commitments can be implemented, especially in the Global Health Architecture, Digital Economic Transformation, and Energy Transition sectors," the Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Haryo Limanseto explained.Â
Indonesia has a strategic role in the G20, bridging the group of developed and developing countries for Indonesia's national interests and broader global interests.
In addition, Indonesia is also the voice of the Global South and acts as a counterweight between developed countries, developing countries, and LDCs.
As stated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on the first day of the G20 New Delhi Summit, there are three keys to world development, namely stability, solidarity, and equality.
World growth needs to be supported by stability through the spirit to continue to encourage the habit of dialogue and cooperation. The G20 must end the dichotomy of north-south, developed-developing countries, and the east-west.Â
In addition, the G20 should support strengthening the participation of developing countries in global supply chains. Cooperation should take into account the principles of equality, inclusiveness, and equity to fulfill the right to development for all.
Furthermore, the G20 Presidency in 2024 will be held by Brazil. The handover of the G20 Presidency from Prime MInister Modi to Brazilian President Lula da Silva took place at the third session of the Summit.Â
Thus, Indonesia ends the leadership of the G20 Troika and will be replaced by South Africa as the G20 Presidency in 2025. The G20 has also agreed that the United States will return as Host of the G20 in 2026.
