Jokowi Asks Netherlands Support for Developing Low-carbon Technology

Jakarta – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked the Netherlands government to support the development of low-carbon technology in Indonesia and assist Indonesia's application process to become a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

According to the Head of State, Indonesia currently has carried out several economic reforms that are in line with OECD requirements. 

"Indonesia has applied for OECD membership and has carried out various economic reforms in line with OECD requirements," President Jokowi said in his statement during a bilateral meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte at Bharat Mandapam, IECC, Pragati Maidan, in a series of activities of the G20 India Summit.

The President also asked Prime Minister Rutte to support Indonesia in its efforts to develop low-carbon technology and encourage the abolition of the European Union Deforestation Regulation.

"I also hope that the Netherlands can support the development of low-carbon technology and the conversion of power plants to renewable energy, as a follow-up to the JETP cooperation and encourage the elimination of the EU Deforestation Regulation so as not to discriminate against Indonesia's main commodities," the President explained. 

During the meeting, President Jokowi and Prime Minister Rutte discussed a number of cooperation between the two countries, namely in the fields of development and economy. 

"ASEAN has agreed on the Netherlands as an ASEAN development partner, which is expected to increase ASEAN cooperation with the Netherlands," the President said. 

"Although the process was not easy, it was finally agreed upon. I hope this will further advance ASEAN cooperation with the Netherlands."

In addition, President Jokowi also welcomed the Netherlands investment to build a Center of Excellence in Surakarta City, as well as the plan to hold a high-level conference on renewable energy and climate.

"I welcome the Dutch investment to build a Center of Excellence in Solo and the plan to hold a Summit on Renewable Energy and Climate," the President concluded.
