Banten – The ferry KMP Mutiara Berkah I caught fire at the Indah Kiat Port dock, Merak. According to provisional data, there were 135 cargo trucks on board the burning ship.
While the passengers have been evacuated, those who suffered minor injuries were taken to the health center and some were referred to the hospital.
"While there are 135 cargo trucks on fire, the extinguishing process is still ongoing," said Colonel Laut (P) Dedi Komarudin, Danlanal Banten, at the location, on Wednesday.
A total of four tugboats were deployed to extinguish the fire from the sea side. Then eight units of fire trucks doused water from the top of the Indah Kiat Port dock, Cilegon City, Banten.
"By deploying eight units of fire trucks, then there are also four units of tugboats from the sea side," Komarudin said.
The extinguishing of the burning ship was constrained by the water supply. So Danlanal Banten, Colonel Laut (P) Dedi Komarudin, asked all companies that have tank cars to send water to the fire location.Â
The passenger data or manifest of the KMP Mutiara Berkah 1 Ferry is not yet known with certainty by the joint SAR team. They are still focused on extinguishing the fire, so that it does not spread to other ships and buildings at Indah Kiat Pier, Cilegon City, Banten.
"Our difficulty is water availability, sustainable water supply. So we are intensifying from the sea side. All passengers have been successfully evacuated," he explained.
