Thousands of Participants from 23 Countries Enliven Bromo Marathon

Pasuruan – Thousands of runners from 23 countries participated in the Pasuruan Bromo Marathon 2023 on Sunday. This is a sports tourism event that presents the natural charm of the Tosari Subdistrict and the beautiful scenery of Mount Bromo in the Tengger Mountains, East Java.
There are five categories of running competitions that are contested. Namely, for children with a distance of 2.5 kilometers, then for the public with a distance of 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, 21 kilometers, and 42 kilometers.
"Bromo Marathon participants currently have 1,300 participants from 23 countries. Indonesia alone is the largest, besides Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the United States, India, Italy, Japan, and Canada. The total prize is IDR 50 million," Chief Organizer, Dedik Kurniawan said on Sunday.
Kurniawan stated that the Bromo Marathon route in 2023 was the same as the previous route. However, this year the event committee personnel and volunteers are added so that participants don't get lost while walking along the running track.
In addition, in the area where the start and finish locations are located at the Bromo Pelataran hotel, a local community MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise) bazaar is presented.
MSME players who are Tengger residents sell various kinds of culinary, fruits, and local souvenirs typical of the Tengger Tribe.
Not only that. to entertain participants, local musical arts such as Baleganjur and various typical dances of the Tengger Tribe are also presented.
"In this Bromo Marathon, what we offer is more to sports tourism on the 21-kilometer route. On the 21-kilometer route, they can still see Bromo and also the time cut is quite long. So, there are 8 hours to complete the 21-kilometer run, for the 40 kilometers it is also the same 8 hours," Kurniawan explained.
Meanwhile, Pasuruan Regent Irsyad Yusuf, said that sports tourism that has been presented in Pasuruan Regency has turned out to be extraordinary enthusiasts. Yusuf hopes Bromo Marathon will become an icon of Pasuruan Regency.
"I hope in the future, Bromo Marathon will continue to be implemented as an icon of Pasuruan Regency. Hopefully, it will be bigger and more interesting and obviously become part of the sports tourism destination in Pasuruan Regency," Yusuf said.
