Jakarta – In preparation for the 43rd ASEAN Summit to be held in Jakarta, the Indonesian government has taken a significant step by providing a number of electric vehicles as transportation means for attending delegations from friendly nations.
This initiative aims not only to mitigate the impact of air pollution but also to demonstrate Indonesia's commitment towards carbon emissions reduction efforts.
Setya Utama, the Secretary of the Ministry of State Secretariat, revealed that a fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) has been arranged for the leaders and delegates. "We have collaborated with several electric vehicle companies to ensure the smooth execution of this international agenda," he stated during the Road to ASEAN Summit discussion organized by FMB9.
The lineup of vehicles includes various makes and models, comprising 24 units of the European-made BMW i7 designated for use by friendly nation leaders. Additionally, 76 units of the Toyota Bz4X will serve as transportation for Ministers and Senior Officials, while 52 units of the South Korean Hyundai Ioniq 6 are allocated for female officials. A reserve of VVIP guest vehicles is also available.
This plan does not overlook protocols and security personnel. A total of 208 units of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be assigned for their use, along with 150 units of the Wuling AirEv, which will serve as operational vehicles.
In addition to electric vehicles, the collaboration between the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) and the Jakarta Transportation Agency includes the utilization of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system and electric shuttle buses.
This initiative will provide environmentally-friendly transportation alternatives for visiting dignitaries to the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).
These measures reflect Indonesia's commitment to drive sustainable mobility and minimize environmental impact. By focusing on electric vehicles and sustainable transportation, Indonesia is also contributing to the global efforts towards achieving carbon neutrality.
