Jakarta – The Indonesian automotive market is once again buzzing with options for electric vehicles for the public. The latest addition comes from PT Piaggio Indonesia (PID), which has just launched its first electric scooter named Vespa Elettrica.

Resembling the Primavera variant, the Elettrica features a more catchy and modern design. One noticeable change is the absence of a side stand on this vehicle, which is priced at IDR 198 million.

According to Ayu Hapsari, the PR andCommunication Manager of PT Piaggio Indonesia, the reason for removing the side stand is based on several considerations.

She explained, "First, we are aligning with its country of origin, Italy. There, electric scooters also do not use side stands."

She further mentioned, "Second, the removal of the side stand is solely for the safety of Vespa Elettrica owners. Since this motorcycle is silent, without any noise, this is to avoid unexpected situations. For instance, if the side stand is down and suddenly the throttle is applied, there's a risk of falling."

As a result, PID decided to only use a center stand. Addressing the issue that some women might find it challenging to lift the center stand, Ayu stated that there are tricks to overcome this.

"It's actually easy for women, there are tricks to it," she said.

Additionally, the absence of a side stand on this electric motorcycle harkens back to vintage or classic Vespas. Unlike the center stand, the side stand is not known for being sturdy enough to support the motorcycle's weight for an extended period.

Furthermore, the Vespa Elettrica is equipped with a lithium-ion battery, offering a quiet riding experience without compromising performance.

Similar to most electric motorcycles, the top speed of the electric Vespa is limited to 67 kilometers per hour, with a range of up to 100 kilometers in Eco mode and 70 kilometers in Power mode. The vehicle also features a Reverse mode for backing up.

The Vespa Elettrica is powered by a 2 kW electric motor that can generate 4 kW (5.4 hp) of power and a peak torque of 200 Nm.
