Indonesia, Tanzania Discuss Gas Management and Health Investments

Jakarta – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held a bilateral meeting with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Tuesday. Both Presidents agreed to cooperation more investment and optimize the trade potential of the two countries.

"During the meeting, we discussed several things. First, Indonesia encourages the establishment of preferential trade agreements to further optimize the potential of bilateral trade between the two countries which in 2022 will increase by 20.7 percent," President Joko Widodo said as quoted from his official statement on Tuesday.

Second, Indonesia wants to increase investment in Tanzania including the Mnazi Bay gas block management by Indonesian state-owned enterprises as well as the management of natural gas into chemicals and fertilizers, he added.

"This cooperation is very strategic and will strengthen cooperation between developing countries. In addition, I propose the establishment of a bilateral investment treaty to ensure the protection and continuity of investment between the two countries,"

Third, President Jokowi said Indonesia is committed to being part of building Tanzania's health security, Indonesian pharmaceutical companies will conduct the first export of their products in Tanzania as a form of contribution to meet the needs of pharmaceutical products in Tanzania.

Fourth, Indonesia will realize concrete collaboration with Africa. Indonesia is finalizing a grand design for the next five years of development for Africa.

"One is through the plan to revitalize the agricultural and rural training center in Morogoro Tanzania," the President said.

The Head of State said that his visit this time was an honor because it was his first visit to Tanzania.

The historical roots of relations between Indonesia and African countries are very strong since the Asia-Africa conference in 1955 and the non-aligned movement in 1961.
