Urban hubs like Jakarta, along with several other municipalities are confronting rising AQI levels, signaling a rapid decline in air quality. The escalating concern over air pollution has prompted the Bakrie Group to participate in creating a more environmentally sustainable future

Realizing on this problem, Helio Synar, a subsidiary of Bakrie & Brothers (BNBR) has been leading the charge in the renewable energy sector.

"In our role as a visionary company led by the third generation, the Bakrie Group is acutely aware of the global energy transition's significance, not only for the environment but as a legacy for future generations," CEO of Helio Synar, Ronald Nehemia Sinaga said as quoted from official statement on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

Focusing on a sustainable approach, Helio Synar is at the forefront of constructing utility-scale solar power plants (PLTS) as a pivotal step towards industrial decarbonization.

An exemplary move in this direction is the installation of solar panels atop Braja Mukti Cakra (BMC) and future installation at Bakrie Pipe Industries (BPI).

"At BMC, solar panel installation on the factory roof is at an advanced stage, with a capacity of 317.7 kWp, capable of generating up to 434 MWh of electricity annually. This move alone will significantly reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 415,000 kg per year - equivalent to planting 15,060 trees," Sinaga explained.

Meanwhile, VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR), another BNBR subsidiary, is demonstrating their unwavering commitment to sustainable mobility.

VKTR's collaboration with Mayasari Bakti has successfully introduced 52 electric buses on the TransJakarta route, covering over 3 million kilometers and preventing 4 million kg of CO2 emissions, a feat equivalent to planting 400,000 mangroves.

CEO of VKTR, Gilarsi W. Setijono highlighted the strategic shift towards green industries as a crucial decision for the future. Recognizing that air pollution's root causes span from coal-based power generation to internal combustion engine vehicles, the Bakrie Group's commitment to environmental responsibility is undeniable.

"Health implications are stark, with a noticeable rise in respiratory ailments such as pneumonia. Moreover, public demands for swift and effective actions are intensifying," Setijono said.

The Bakrie Group's dedication goes beyond current endeavors. A forthcoming eco-centric industrial park in Sulawesi, backed by relentless R&D in green energy, exemplifies their dedication.

Plans include advanced energy storage solutions and AI integration to enhance energy demand-supply management.

The Bakrie Group is also pioneering a smart grid system to strategically direct power generation away from densely populated areas, ensuring emissions are minimized.

"In an era of rapid technological advancement, the Bakrie Group remains steadfast in its mission: to champion innovations that not only stand the test of time but also drive a more environmentally friendly future," Setijono concluded.
