Bandung – The Indonesian Transportation Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi said that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wants an evaluation of the transportation arrangement in the Bandung Basin, West Java.
"We are assigned by the President to evaluate the Bandung Basin or Metropolitan Bandung, and we are given one month to do so," Minister Sumadi said at the Presidential Complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
The government has prepared three integrated modes of transportation to overcome congestion in the Bandung Basin area, one of which is the train. Currently, the east-west railway line is already available and needs some improvements, the Minister added.
Then, Minister Sumadi said the government is also building transportation projects in the form of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and cable cars. The BRT project is targeted to be completed by 2027 and the cable car project will begin in stages.
"Mr. President agreed to further study the Bandung Basin. So we will agree on proposals from the regions and the center, as well as our fiscal capacity," he remarked.
Meanwhile, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil appreciated the positive response from the central government regarding the transportation development plan in the Bandung Basin.
Obviously, he hopes that the evaluation can run well so that the mass transportation development solution can be realized soon.
Furthermore, Governor Kamil said that the APBD cannot finance mass transportation projects, "Moreover, the Bandung Basin requires a budget of around IDR 100 billion. The cost is not cheap but it must be done, because the more delayed the price will be more expensive," Governor Kamil explained.
