Jakarta – VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR), a prominent player in the Indonesian transportation industry, has joined forces with Synland, a leading Chinese company, to drive the rapid electrification of transportation in the country.

The momentous partnership was formally sealed through a signing ceremony attended by VKTR's CEO, Gilarsi W. Setijono, and Synland's CEO, Tom Jiang, held in Jakarta.

Synland, renowned for being an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) tier 0.5 and a major supplier of electric platform solutions, is an essential part of the world's largest battery company, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL).

Gilarsi W. Setijono, VKTR's CEO, stated that the signing of this joint cooperation is one of VKTR's efforts to accelerate transportation electrification in Indonesia.

"It also demonstrates our commitment to supporting the government's program to achieve the Net Zero Emission target by 2060," said Gilarsi at Bakrie Tower, Epicentrum, Kuningan, Jakarta.

A pivotal aspect of this joint effort involves enhancing VKTR and Synland's capabilities to transform conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles into electric-powered EVs.

Initially, the partnership will concentrate on converting commercial vehicles, such as buses and trucks. Indonesia currently boasts approximately 1.5 million trucks and 200,000 buses on its roads, making this segment a crucial focus for electrification efforts.

"Through the B-to-B scheme, converting ICE vehicles to EVs is much more economical, with prices reaching 50%-60% of the cost of a new EV in the same class," said Gilarsi.
