Indonesia vs Brunei Darussalam in the 2026 World Cup Qualification

Jakarta – Indonesia will play against Brunei Darussalam in the first round of the 2026 World Cup qualification, which will use a home-away format on October 12 and 17.
This certainty was obtained after the draw at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) office, in Kuala Lumpur, Thursday, as reported by Indonesian Football Association (FIFA) official site.
Indonesia will host first on October 12. After that, the national team will visit Brunei headquarters on October 17.
The red and white team must undergo the first round of World Cup qualifications in 2026 because it occupies the 28th position of FIFA at the Asian level.
According to regulations, teams ranked 27th and 46th at the Asian level must undergo this phase.
In the draw at the AFC office, Indonesia was in pot 1 along with Hong Kong, Taiwan, Maldives, Yemen, Afghanistan, Singapore, Myanmar, and Cambodia.
In the next phase, the ten first-round winners will advance to the second round to join the 26 teams that qualify automatically. The 36 teams will be divided into nine groups, each consisting of four teams.
A total of 18 teams consisting of the group winners and second-placed teams will qualify for the third round. In this phase, the qualified teams will be divided into three groups of six teams to play home-away matches in a round-robin format.
In the fourth round, the six teams that qualify for this round will be divided into two groups of three teams each. The group winners will automatically qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals.
As for the second-placed team, they will play the fifth round of qualifying against a country from another confederation in a playoff.
