Hungary – Max Verstappen successfully dominates the Hungarian F1 GP on Sunday, to lead the Red Bull team to a record-breaking 12 consecutive wins, dating back to the final race of 2022 in Abu Dhabi.Â
The achievement broke the record of 11 straight wins set by McLaren with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost in 1988.
McLaren's Lando Norris fended off a threat from Red Bull's Sergio Perez to take second place.Â
"12 consecutive wins, that's history!" Red Bull team boss Christian Horner told Verstappen over team radio.Â
Verstappen, who won by more than half a second to take first place on the podium, said 12 consecutive wins for a team was incredible.
"Hopefully, we can keep this momentum for a long time," Verstappen said.
Meanwhile, Verstappen's seventh straight win extended the world champion's lead over Perez to 110 points in the F1 standings.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton, who started from pole position for the first time in 33 races, had a poor start and dashed the Mercedes driver's hopes of a 104th career victory to settle for fourth.
Verstappen praised his performance for matching Hamilton on the front row.
"I made a very good start. I controlled the inside, the (first) corner was mine. It was a lot of fun from then on, today my car was very fast."
