Lumajang – The Indonesian Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) supports the emergency handling of the flood disaster in Lumajang District by preparing the installation of a Bailey Bridge as a temporary replacement for the Kali Glidik II Bridge that collapsed after being hit by floods accompanied by Mount Semeru materials last Friday.
The Kali Glidik II Bridge is located in Sidomulyo Village, Pronojiwo Subdistrict. The flood has cut off access to the national road in the southern region of East Java that connects Malang Regency with Lumajang Regency.
Head of the East Java-Bali National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) Rakhman Taufik said that the handling of the Kali Glidik II Bridge was immediately carried out by preparing a Bailey Bridge.
"Currently, a survey team has been assigned to investigate pillars and rivers and prepare working drawings. If technically possible and the weather supports, temporary handling is carried out by installing a Bailey bridge so that it is expected to be operationalized at the end of August 2023. Further developments will be informed later," Taufik said in his written statement, on Saturday.
The plan to install the Bailey Bridge as a replacement for the Kali Glidik II Bridge is carried out in 2 stages, namely stage 1 has a span length of 30 meters and stage 2 with a fortress length of 18 meters.
The installation of the Bailey Bridge itself was carried out after the survey results were technically appropriate and the weather in the upstream and downstream areas of Mount Semeru was favorable, such as the condition of the Kali Glidik River had receded and it was not raining.
A load test of the Bailey Bridge will be carried out before it is operated for the general public.
"Later, it is necessary to limit the vehicle load to a maximum of 25 tons, so that the types of vehicles that can pass we think are only small vehicles, small buses, 2-axis trucks with load restrictions, including open and close traffic engineering because the width of the Bailey Bridge is approximately four meters," he explained.
Landslide handling has also been carried out by BBPJN East Java-Bali, Director General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR by deploying heavy equipment for cleaning and emergency response personnel.
Landslide material in the form of soil and rocks covered the road surface along 25 meters, so the traffic flow was closed.
As information, Lumajang Regent Thoriqul Haq has declared a 14-day emergency response period following the Mount Semeru cold lava flood disaster in Lumajang Regency, East Java Province.
"I have set an emergency response for 14 days, I have assigned Mr. Region Secretary to appoint a disaster emergency task force," Regent Haq said when visiting the evacuation site at Jarit Village Hall, Candipuro, on Friday.
