Over 1,900 Human Trafficking Victims Rescued in a Month

Jakarta – The Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said that as many as 1,943 victims of human Trafficking (TPPO) were rescued within one month.

"This step was followed by the rescue of 1,943 victims in just one month. Maybe there are still many who cannot be saved," Minister Mahfud MD said in a press conference at the Menkopolhukam Office, on Tuesday.

Minister Mahfud said the achievement of rescuing TPPO victims was unprecedented. The reason is, the rescue of victims so far has only been retail.

"But this has never happened before, one month saved so much. In the past, a week there was news of this and that, two people were rescued. But this past month has been very productive," Minister Mahfud said.

He also explained that there are currently 605 police reports on TPPO. These reports are related to online fraud, gambling, and prostitution.

"The police have also issued 605 police reports. So if the type of crime is people, there is online fraud, gambling, prostitution, and so on. Then, there is manual labor on ships, ART workers who are not paid, there is torture of migrant workers in various countries," he remarked.

Not only that, Minister Mahfud said that the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) is currently also conducting serious supervision. This is solely to increase the departure of legal migrant workers.

"BP2MI is now conducting proper supervision to increase legal departures." he concluded.
