Indonesia-Australia Cooperation Has Good Progressive

Sydney – The Indonesian President Joko Widodo attended the Annual Leaders' Meeting (ALM) at Taronga Center, Sydney, on Tuesday. During the meeting, he said that cooperation between Indonesia and Australia has good progressive.

"Since the Annual Leaders' Meeting in Bogor last year, there have been many positive developments and I thank you for your commitment," the President said in an official statement after the meeting.

The President said there are several priorities that must be carried out by the two countries.

First, making economic relations more substantive and strategic, "Indonesia and Australia must build more substantive and strategic economic cooperation, through joint development of electric car battery production," the President said.

Second, the President said that since the implementation of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA), trade volume has increased by 90 percent.

"This will continue to be optimized through cooperation on mutual recognition agreements for fishery products, quarantine and inspection of fruits, and capacity building for MSMEs," he stated.

Third, related to reducing carbon emissions, President Jokowi continues to encourage cooperation in the development of carbon capture and storage and smelters oriented towards green energy in Indonesia.

"Fourth, related to the development of the national capital, Indonesia encourages the Australian private sector and the Australian National Capital Authority to cooperate with the IKN Authority," the President continued.

The Head of State also considered that Indonesia and ASEAN want the Indo-Pacific region to be a peaceful and stable region, and prioritize concrete collaboration and cooperation.

"I appreciate Australia's support for Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN, and invite Australia to strengthen partnerships in the South Pacific through trilateral cooperation, as well as participate in the ASEAN-Indo Pacific Forum,"

In his statement, Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese said that relations between Indonesia and Australia continue to improve as partners in various fields.

"The relationship between Indonesia and Australia is getting better and the two countries continue to get closer as partners in the fields of economy, security, and partners in the global transition to net zero," PM Albanese said.

PM Albanese also assessed that Indonesia's security and stability conditions have a positive impact on the Indo-Pacific region.
